Severin the Wanderer:
"I don't know who AM is. This is a beautiful song by "The A.M." a band comprised of my brother Andrew on bass, Michael Tighe on guitar and their compadre Parker Kindred on the skins. Michael and Parker were in Jeff Buckley's band for "Grace" and "My Sweetheart the Drunk." The name comes from "Andrew" (A) and "Michael" (M). They were signed by a British label (don't ask me which; I just have the burned disc Andrew gave me). Michael and Andrew co-wrote most of the songs, which have a glammy, spacey feel to them, only emphasized by Mike's breathy speak-singing. The production is lush and potent, and the album, "If I Was The Sheriff," made a little splash in the UK, enough to warrant two tours and rumors of a follow-up album. As far as I know, it never found a US distributor, which is a crying shame. There's some great stuff here, though I must confess I prefer my brother's stuff with his new band, Fires of Rome -- who, to all you Gothamites, will be doing a live show at Lit on 2nd Ave and 5th St. this Wednesday, the 27th of June. Anyone interested in hearing some of these cuts, let me know and I'll post them for download. Thus endeth my pitch for my bro."
