  First time I ever heard Chris was on Much Music up In Canada sometime around the late 80's During His DIN OF ECSTACY days... POISON GIRL was the video that was playing at the time and I was blown away by the rest of his music when I went out and bought the album. Bought every release til his death.... Still Looking for REITER ... Cant find it anywhere. My WHOLE LIFE I've met ONE person in real life that ever heard of Chris Whitley. I was at a party, Played GUNS AND DOLLS by myself with a bo... I was at a party, Played GUNS AND DOLLS by myself with a borrowed guitar in regular tuning and blew that one person away... Kevin spoke up and yelled HEY THATS CHRIS WHITLEY!!!, We've been buddies ever since. He and I got so drunk when we found out Chris died, cried, laughed and smoked a lotta pot that night. Miss ya Chris, Hope Trixie and the gang can make it up here for a show sometime. A fan is born everyday. Wish I couldve seen CW live.... what a huge loss. RIP Everything I love with goes out to his family. peace.

  Chris Whitley was the first musician I ever saw play live. He opened for Tom Petty on the Into the Great Wide Open tour, September '91. He would have been touring in support of Living with the Law. "Big Sky Country" was the song I remembered. I bought his record on the strength of that performance and have followed him ever since. His death was a huge, huge loss. I hope his family or friends reads this thing or any of the other sites and realizes that even though he may not have been a huge c... More...   I met my husband because of Chris - went to see him at The Trees in Dallas in 1993 because I was a big Chris fan. Turned out to be this pretty cool band opening named Medicine Show Caravan. Wound up talking to lead singer, we went on a few dates; but, in the end it was the bass player that really won my heart. 15 years later, we're still together!

  His music was introduced to me through the great Dave Matthews way back when. I saw Chris Whitley twice at the Borderline in London, up close and personal and I was blown away. I was lucky enough to have had the pleasure of hearing his music live before he past. God Bless.

  I still play "Living With The Law" into the ground. Such a strong album. Probably among my top 20 all time favorite albums and I'm a pretty serious music collector.Just a great piece of music. I'm surprised it never went commercially bigger. I have exposed so many people to it and they absolutely love it too!

  1st saw him when he opened up Glastonbury festival on the main stage was it?? (HELP!) around 92 i think,, he blew me away!!!! devastatingly achiling beautiful... i was lucky enough to see him in Melbourne 2005. His death was upsetting to say the least. Immense talent and such an amazing sound. i still have to listen to LIving with the law albulm at least once a week. :)

  I was lucky enough to see him in July '05 - just down the road - in a local juke joint. I love this man's music with a passion. "Hotel Vast Horizon" captures the clarity of expression that I think he strived for - a crystal clear recording (à la ECM style) with a lushness unmatched.
