Headed by Evan Bliss, former frontman for rock and reggae group The Low Life, Evan Bliss & the Welchers are a contemporary rock outfit based in Washington, DC. Spanning a wide range of styles, from classical and jazz to funk and roots rock, the members bring their respective backgrounds to the table to create their own unique and crowd-friendly musical mix.
In June 2007, the band released their self-titled debut album under the Holster Records label with Frank Marchand, former engineer of The All Mighty Senators and Bob Mould. Since then, they have performed regularly in venues up and down the East Coast, including the Black Cat in Washington, DC, the Recher Theatre in Baltimore, MD, IOTA Club & Cafe in Arlington, VA, the Knitting Factory in New York City, and the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA.
The band has also made inroads in the world of extreme sports. In addition to being featured in a number of mountain biking and surfing videos, the band scored a major coup when one of their songs provided the backdrop for a commercial by Reef- the world’s leader in authentic surf-inspired footwear- for a sandal endorsed by professional surfer Rob Machado. Most recently, the band was pegged as a ‘local band to watch’ during the Panasonic Open, the Baltimore, MD stop on Mountain Dew’s Action Sports Tour- the premier nationwide extreme sports summer tour.
The band is currently working on a second album, to be released early next year.
