Green like Oscar officially spawned in the fall of 2001. The trio first jammed together in a basement studio in Whitestone, NY. The session was a culmination of small worlds colliding. The happenchance connection was a welcome surprise to Gary, Rich and Jamil, who had never played together collectively. Rich and Gary had been developing an as-of-yet unfinished band, searching for the missing element. At the time, Jamil was an active member of the band Holler, but was eager to pursue other musical possibilities. Enter the jam. The event had been organized by a fellow friend and musician, Matt O'Neill, (Spider Nick and the Maddogs, Sweet Magma) who had previously joined ranks with both Gary (The Effect) and Jamil (St. Peter's Gate). By the end of the night, interests were sparked and curiousity worked its magic. At the present time, the band is thrilled to be promoting their debut album entitled "Living the Lesson". The tracks reflect a wide array of musical influences both mainstream and eclectic. Rich's diverse songwriting, coupled with Jamil and Gary's intensely creative sensibilities, are displayed in this labor of catharsis. The album, recorded and produced in-house, is the result of endless determination and caffeine (Rich can attest to this). The goal of Green Like Oscar has always been to make good music and, with any luck, make a lot of great friends along the way. Thanks for checking in!
