Hundred Thousand Down was formed in October of 2000 from the remains of a band called Lyster Lower (a 2 year old, horn driven ska-pop-punk band.) Over the summer of 2000 three of the seven members moved to various other states, either for a girl or a few beers, and the remaining four were left to mutate the music to suit their evil whims. Hundred Thousand Down was born. The members of LL still hanging around are Lew Roberts with vocals, Sol Cantwell on guitar, Matt Probert beating the skins, and Johnny “don’t touch my” Fitzhugh playin’ the bone. --------------- The guys quickly realized how much happier they would be if they had a second guitar and harassed long time friend and guitar “pimp” Shane Hamman until he joined the band. After some song writing the band broke down and, seeing as how every other band has one, decided they needed a bassist. Ads were placed and the search began. After several responses, mostly crank calls from Sol’s parents, Corey Blake sat in on a practice. Instantly after seeing the Tats up and down his arms the band knew: this guy is so much cooler than us. Corey, knowing the truth to be much different, agreed to join the band. -- - -------- -- -- With two less horns, Hundred Thousand Down finds itself much more free than Lyster Lower did. Some songs have been carried over from the old Lyster Lower sets in modified forms to fit the band’s changes, and some have been nixed. (At least temporarily... until some girl tells Matt he looked cute when he used to play song X.) The new sound ranges from reggae infused ska with punk tendencies in songs like “Right Time” and “RAD”, to straight ahead fast, hard punk with “Doage” and “Congratulations”. At shows the response to the new sounds have been positive, so positive in fact that John has agreed to stick around and continue playing with the heathens. --------- ---- A Hundred Thousand Dollars is the amount we collectively owe (so far) in student loans.
