"Great rock often has little time for political correctness, or other intellectual niceties, and this tune is something beyond great: it's fascinating. It would have given Edward Said a stroke or two - if "the Orient" is historically defined in opposition to "the Occident" (y'know - the alleged home of reason, varied forms of superiority, and foreign barbarians), how exactly does this Mao-ignorant mixture of Orientalist hippie peasant idyll and sleek, Occidental rice-queen erotic piety fit into the post-colonial scheme of things? Of such conundrums greatness springs - if the world grows ever more unknowable, what with information overloads and global villages and such, this band was truly at the forfront of postmodernism if anyone was. I love 'em, and I mock 'em, but I love 'em still - every exotic sexy synth squiggle and bass throb and hairdo shimmer to be found here completely rings my chimes."
