The Inaugural Celebration of DPAC Welcomes superstar guest artist John Legend
The Inaugural Celebration of the Durham Performing Arts Center welcomes Five-time Grammy-winning recording artist and multi-platinum singer-songwriter John Legend as the evening's superstar guest. Enjoy an electrifying concert featuring soulful tunes by John Legend as he astounds the DPAC on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. Ticket prices for this special event range from $50 to $125. John Legend has put the finishing touches on his eagerly awaited new studio album "Evolver" which will be released on Tuesday, October 28, 2008. John Legend gave the world a taste of this new album performing "If You're Out There" during his historic set opening the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO on August 25th. Experience this premier singer-songwriter-pianist in December at DPAC. His incredible hits include the current smash "Green Light" featuring Andre 3000, "Ordinary People," "Save Room," "Used to Love U," "Heaven," and "Family Affair."
John's Columbia Records labelmate, Raphael Saadiq, whose new album "The Way I See It" is out now, will be the opening act on this extraordinary night of music. Many may remember Raphael as the lead vocalist and bass player with late '80's/early '90's group Tony! Toni! Toné!.
The Durham Performing Arts Center is currently under construction downtown in American Tobacco, adjacent to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. On track to open in late November 2008, the 2,800 seat theatre is home to big shows, concerts and Broadway Carolina, an authentic Broadway experience direct-from-New York. Performances are booked through an operating partnership between Professional Facilities Management and the Nederlander Organization. This spectacular cultural landmark will draw audiences to more than 100 shows each year with convenient access off I-40, I-540 and I-85, and more than 3,500 parking spaces within walking distance.
