KRISTA DETOR
With her highly acclaimed album MUDSHOW in 2005, Krista Detor was established as a gifted player on the world stage.
Now, with her follow-up album, COVER THEIR EYES, together with partner and producer David Weber, she has created a collection of brilliantly provocative and compelling songs that push the edges of genre while remaining close throughout to the lyrical thread that defines her work. 'Cover Their Eyes' spans era and style, incorporating the musical influence of some of the places in which Krista has lived and traveled – the southern U.S., the Midwest and Europe. All distinct on their own, these regional and cultural influences are woven together in a continuous pattern of sound and story. A writer with the rare ability to convey her songs via a beautiful voice and acute musical sensibilities, she is praised by critics and concert promoters alike: Says promoter Miner Seymour: “Krista Detor is an artist with a stunning voice, evocative without being overly emotional and the stage presence to deliver the full intent of her lyrics to the audience. Listening to her CD gave me high expectations, seeing her light up the audience reminded me why I host concerts.”
Within a short time following the release of Mudshow, Krista reached #1 on the Euro-Americana chart and her music has been featured at the Cannes Film Festival, on NPR, the BBC, Dutch National Radio, German National Radio, Belgian National Radio, as well as countless U.S. and European National, Regional and Local Radio Shows and Podcasts. She has appeared on both U.S. and European television and contributed the featured performance for the National Domestic Violence Hotline Conference in Washington D.C. 2006.
In 2007, she completed the collaborative stage show and CD, ‘Wilderness Plots,’ with Grammy award-winning songwriter Carrie Newcomer, as well as Tim Grimm and a small group of talented Indiana songwriters. The show and CD have received rave reviews and will continue to tour throughout the U.S. well into the future.
After finishing production of her newest album 'Cover Their Eyes' in the fall of 2007, Krista and her partner Dave Weber launched it during a month-long tour in Northern Europe. Highlights of that tour included opening for one of her longtime idols, Joan Armatrading, and for the wonderful Suzanne Vega at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. A live broadcast video of the Paradiso performance was released on the Fab Channel, and can be viewed at www.kristadetor.com or at www.myspace.com/kristadetor.
Krista maintains a continuous U.S. tour schedule and will once again tour Northern Europe in the Fall of 2008, to present the new songs of Cover Their Eyes in person to an intensely loyal and dedicated European audience.
Cover Their Eyes will be released in the U.S. April 29, 2008, followed in November by her new album of all-original holiday songs, The Silver Wood. Performances of the holiday songs during concerts in November and December were met with unprecedented enthusiasm and sales of the limited edition CD.
Krista Detor defies genre, but the quality of her writing has been compared to the likes of Leonard Cohen, Laura Nyro, Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell, company she is more than happy to keep. “The whole musical world is changing; maybe the tight restrictions of ‘genre’ are finally being set aside. The world is wide…”
Many of us will want to listen to where she goes in the wide world.
