"I am baptized."
From the www.luther525.de web site:
According to one of the many legends surrounding the great Reformer, it is said that once, when he felt his adversaries had particularly misunderstood and ostracized him, the young Luther wrote "I am baptized" with his finger on a dusty table.
"I am baptized." This certainty gave Luther the strength in the knowledge that God had not abandoned him in that moment in his life. No matter what happened, God's promise to be with him would always be there. Luther understood baptism as the beginning and the center of the Christian life.
Each year, Christians in Lutherstadt Eisleben celebrate a baptismal remembrance service on the anniversary of Luther's baptism (November 11th). We are blessed to be able to celebrate our baptism in the church of Ss. Peter and Paul-the very church where Martin Luther was baptized almost 525 years ago in 1483. We still baptize adults and children in the remains of same baptismal font, in which the little baby Martin was held. To commemorate the 525th anniversary of Luther's baptism, we would like to have an even larger ceremony this year. We would like to invite you to commit yourself to celebrate your baptism with us.
We are also calling on all congregations in the Lutheran tradition to celebrate Luther's baptismal anniversary with a baptismal remembrance service of their own!
We hope that more people will proudly say "I am baptized," and draw courage and hope from God's promise to us.
