“With their traditional rock songs and singer Martin Xavier’s occasional passing resemblance to Thin Lizzy’s Phil Lynott, the Lovehammers have created a guitar-rock record that is both classic and contemporary. “ -Jim Nelson, Vice President Adult Rock, The Album Network Lovehammers have carved out their own space in the Chicago music scene by their hard work and dedication to their fans. Described as “The most Un-Pretentious Fuck-You Rock-N-Roll Band,” this quintet has done their homework and is a breath of fresh air in this often-stale industry. Lead vocalist Martin Xavier and drummer Bobby Kourelis formed Lovehammers during their high school years in suburban Chicago. Dino Kourelis, younger brother of Bobby used to hang out, make up funny lyrics, and sing goofy shit whenever he could. Dino finally saved up $200, and bought a used bass. The name “Lovehammers” came from one of Bobby’s study hours with Penthouse Forum – use your imagination. The Lovehammers grew up on the influences of Led Zep, Crue, Police, G‘n’R, Social Distortion, Van Halen, U2, Pearl Jam, among others. With the three members going off to college, they continued to perform at local clubs and parties, where they stole guitarist Willy Sawilchik away from another local band. Since then, the Lovehammers have been continuously writing/producing new music. Their latest sessions with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Bush, Pixies), allowed the band to feel and create their own sound. Starting with a “vibe,” their songwriting process is continuously developed by sparking off each other. As on stage, the Lovehammers’ music is about creating energy, building up momentum and pushing it in the right direction. The band’s perseverance and hard work have gained them several awards such as “Lucky Strike Band to Band Combat” National Contest Winner, featuring them on the back of Rolling Stone Magazine, and were runner up in the John Lennon songwriting contest for “Rain on the Brain,” and voted one of the top ten unsigned bands in America by Mars Music. Continuously selling out shows in Chicago, Lovehammers have also played sold out shows in New York, LA’s Viper Room and Whiskey A Go Go. Adding to their Midwest tour, they toured with Nickelback/Jerry Cantrell, and have opened for such national acts as Lifehouse, American Hi-Fi, New Found Glory, Interpol, and Hed PE to name only a few. They have also been invited to play SXSW, MOB Fest, CMJ and Atlantis Music Conference. Retooling their line-up from a five-piece to a quartet, Lovehammers took a break from their touring schedule to focus on songwriting. Their new LP “Murder on my Mind”, recorded at Smart Studios, was released on February 18, 2003 debuting on the March 8 Billboard Charts: Independent Album Chart Internet Album Chart Heat Seekers Chart East Album Chart East North Central Album Chart Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, “This is a band to watch for.” After seeing them perform at CMJ Music Conference.
