Good Rock-n-Roll is hard to find nowadays. Big, unapologetic rock tunes with hooks so large you could hang a side of beef on them. JunkFood is fitting the bill. Their debut album, “NO SPACE” was released in January 2004 and quickly hailed as "the best release by a local band in recent memory" by On Tap Magazine. Production started in January of 2003, at the interesting (and exotic) Loch Ness Dauchsund Studios in Fairfax, Virginia, a stones throw from the local HOOTERS restaurant. (Hey, rock bands do need some place to eat dont they?) The studio is in a house smack dab in the middle of a quiet residential neighborhood, and the previous owners had a unique interest: Bondage and S&M. In fact, drum tracks are recorded in the newly named “Purple Bondage Room”, and vocal tracks are recorded inside an S&M isolation booth, which must have been used for other purposes in previous days. Producer TODD WRIGHT (Excentrics, Getaway Car) rented out Loch Ness Dauchsund for the project to give “NO SPACE” a special sound. And “special” it is. Tracks flowed out at breakneck speed, and it was hard to figure out which songs would make the record and which will not. Songs like “Who’s Your Enemy” and “Nevermind” hit right between the eyes, while songs like “Better” and “Perfume and Vodka” slow it down a little but definitely still bring the rock-filled hooks people associate with JunkFood. Grammy award winning producer JEFF JULIANO (Dave Matthews, John Mayer) and DREW MAZUREK (Linkin Park) mixed the album. The record promises big things for JunkFood, and the industry buzz has already started. The record got into the hands of folks “in the know” and all of the positive feedback has been awesome. In fact, Atlantic Recording Artist LUCY WOODWARD says, “These tracks are amazing! You all must tear it up live!” The band has been working on building their fan base through their live shows in the 3 short years they have been together, working tirelessly at bringing more and more people into The World Of JunkFood. All of the members are road-tested and very experienced live players, sharing stages over the years with the likes of FUEL, EVERCLEAR, UNCLE KRACKER, PAT MCGEE BAND, JIMMIES CHICKEN SHACK, THE PRESIDENTS OF THE USA, and EVERYTHING to name a few. Their musical travels have taken them all over the country, playing on stages from New York City to Los Angeles, and from Indianapolis to Houston. JunkFoods’ live show is high energy and fun, making them one of the most sought after bands in the DC/Metro Area. The buzz they have generated in three short years have them headlining most of the major venues in the area. JunkFood has been working with many of the major booking agencies along the East Coast, most recently starting to work with More Music Group in Virginia Beach, who is a subsidiary of SFX/Cellar Door. This pairing has landed the band is larger venues all over Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina, and added even more college contacts to their list. Their website (www.gotjunkfood.com), has been inundated with fans wanting to know more about the music and the band behind it, and the web mailing list has grown by leaps and bounds. The website accomodates 1,600 hits a month, which is very impressive for a local band without national exposure. In 2002, JunkFood was tapped to be the only band in the country to be officially sponsored by Mars Music. Mars hooked the band up with anything they needed at any time. An amazing situation for a band without a major label record deal.
