"Heartfelt lyrics and the perfect instrumentation and vocals to really deliver them."
Feb 09, 2008
"Beyond melancholy. Beyond simple heartbreak. We're talking utter crippling despair. Great song by which to wallow in your sorrows"

""Awaken you dreamers, adrift in your beds. Balloons and streamers decorate the inside of your heads. Please let some out. Do it today.
But don't let the loveless ones sell you a world wrapped in grey." Maybe my favorite XTC lyric."

"I'm excited because Yep Roc, the coolest record label going, is re-issuing Nick's landmark 1978 album Jesus of Cool ('Pure Pop for Now People' in the U.S.). You can get free downloads of 4 side project tracks from the same period by pre-ordering here: http://store.yeproc.com/album.php?id=13159. "

"Another jazz great has passed on to the big concert hall in the sky. R.I.P. Oscar, and thanks for all the great music."
Dec 08, 2007
"Another great Grant Green track, off one of his best albums. Bobby Hutcherson nearly steals the show with his vibe work."
Nov 18, 2007
"What a great piece of jazz balladry. Byrd's emotions really come through in his playing on this one."

"So Canadian. So effin' brilliant! iLike needs to get this soundclip."
"Soaring, lush, melodic. Another hidden pop gem."
Jul 26, 2007
"The lovely, lilting melody juxtaposed with the sinister lyrics gets me every time. Add in the tasteful string accents and Morrissey's masterful bouyant vocals and you have a nice example of Britpop perfection. "

"These lyrics take on a whole new meaning during this seemingly endless war we continue to face. From one of the very best albums of the 90's, Girlfriend."
"Like a salve for the soul. "
Jul 19, 2007
"You Can't Spend Your Whole Life Hanging Around With Arseholes. Have truer words ever been spoken/sung? Words to live by. Nice song too."
Jul 16, 2007
"In my mind this is the best Beatles cover of all-time. I mean, those funky horn fills and Green's soulful delivery just meld together so well you almost forget it *is* a Beatles song."
Jul 09, 2007
"I think Ted does his best vocal work on this latest album. The music and lyrics are also sharp, as always. The popster in me tends to gravitate towards tracks like this one. Excellent stuff."

"If you like your pop lite, sweet and happy, Bacino is your man."
"This guy can really craft a song. His voice is a somewhat acquired taste but I think he makes it work within the songs he writes. Blue Boy is his best album, me thinks, produced by Steve Earle, and this is a standout track from it. "
"Easy-going slice of pop with a nice shuffly drum beat and a lively guitar solo to liven things up. Bleary-eyed observations on growing old, but not too old. Love the line about how things are the same in other parts of the country, only the "mayonnaise and milk have different names." Understated vocals work well. Great bridge."
May 02, 2007
"This song is the perfect pop-rock song. It blends writing with a lot of pop smarts and hooks with raw, garage-ish instrumentation. Five stars. "

"Quite possibly the coolest song of all time."
"RIYL Spoon."
Apr 14, 2007
"Full of dreamy imagery. Very relaxing to listen to."
Apr 05, 2007
"What a beautiful chorus. "
"A travelling song for the time/space continuum. Includes some tasty piano-drums interplay. A really great lsten."
Mar 22, 2007
"A fine example of classic power pop."
Mar 21, 2007
"Blue-eyed soul at its finest."

Ava? An airport? What, is the tarmac the size of the city? I'm impressed. ;)

Thanks for the note. Absolutely about the blue note stuff. Some of my favorites. I am surprised there aren't more jazz listeners on here. If you have not bought the 7/8 disk (I forgot which) blue note compilation, it is killer. Where do you live in MO? Best, Matt

Loving you lists. Particularly the jazz. Not many folks turned on to it and I LOVE it! Best, Matt
