We are SO gone. I have zero idea how I'm going to sleep. 8 hours and 15 minutes. Not that I'm clock-watching.

Gracias for the 'Summer at Shatter Creek.' They've been on my list for awhile now. I had not heard that track. Delish.

Ugh. You are so lucky. Allison said the same thing. Next time we see them, I hope it's in that kind of setting.

It really is. each track leaves you wanting the next, making it difficult to listen to full songs. it reminds me of a much more innocent and pure time that I haven't felt again until recently.

I KNOW. We are going to have a blast. It will certainly be better than either of our proms, I'm sure. We're going to be self-declared high school sweethearts. And we're voting ourselves king and queen. I get the tiara.

"http://www.savefile.com/files/1637379 ~ One of those songs that slowly builds and grows on you. Starting off quietly, the beginning reminiscent of a Gregorian chant, then adding layers of strummy guitars and quiet piano until it's a hushed yet strong song. "

"http://www.savefile.com/files/1602502 ~ 1) Because, as typical as it is (I know), this is one of my favorite Cure songs and 2) I miss Kitchens of Distinction. Their swirling, layered guitars; Patrick's voice. Anyway, stephenhero is Patrick Fitzgerald's project. There's something about the piano in this version that makes it tranquil and a touch eerie at the same time. This and other goodies are available for download at his site: http://www.stephenhero.co.uk."

"http://www.savefile.com/files/1582380 ~ I love this song. Why? Because I imagine it's what Ennio Morricone would write, if he wrote rock songs in Russian bars."

May 25, 2008

"http://www.savefile.com/files/1573074 ~ An Indonesian band that has some very beautiful, lush shoegaze-y guitars. "

May 24, 2008

"http://www.savefile.com/files/1571338 ~ Susanna has the perfect hint of airiness and lilt to her voice that, when combined with the music, makes this a perfect song for a relaxing, lazy day."

May 09, 2008

"http://www.savefile.com/files/1548742 ~ To put it quite simply: delicious Belgian pop."
"I think this is the first artist I've come across where I think all of the artists & bands listed as "related" (Cocteau Twins, Portishead, Tori Amos, Kate Bush) are spot on. "

May 08, 2008

"Free download at http://www.nemointernational.co.uk/media.php ~ I absolutely love these guys. A fantastic melding of modern pop rock with a slight retro feel (of the 80's variety). Good stuff."

Apr 20, 2008

"http://www.savefile.com/files/1513863 ~ I can't resist a good 80's tune. (The key word is good.) It's too bad these guys didn't have more exposure than they did. "

Apr 10, 2008

"http://www.savefile.com/files/1496632 ~ A perfect dose of bouncy shoegaze guitars with a dash of indie pop flair."

Mar 15, 2008

"Available at their site under Press: http://www.thebelltheband.com/ ~ If you follow to link to their iLike page, you're told that two bands share the name, one from the UK and one from New York. This band is neither (they're Swedish). Think of all of the good guitar-oriented Swedish pop you've heard lately, then dip it in an Echo & The Bunnymen flavored indie sauce, and that's what The Bell are like. Yum."

Mar 09, 2008

"http://www.savefile.com/files/1428846 ~ Quite possibly my favorite Grant McLennan song. He had a way of telling heatbreaking stories in the most beautiful fashion, whether it was with his solo work, the Go-Betweens, or collaborating with other artists."

Feb 27, 2008

"Free download: http://www.arrogants.com/sounds/arrogants_bye_05_iwantyou.mp3 ~ At their softest, they're a bit Sundays-ish. But they have also have an edgier side that's a bit Pixies-ish. Either way, it's a good thing. Plenty of songs to sample at their website."

Jan 11, 2008

"The slinky Astrud Gilberto-ishness of her voice hooked me. "

"Free download at http://music.download.com/theresidueofdebauchery/3600-8604_32-100720779.html If Leonard Cohen and Steve Kilbey (The Church) ever got drunk together, this how I imagine it would sound. "

Jan 08, 2008

"Go ahead. Give them a try. Or two, or three, or four....There's 20+ free tracks available on the site. Kind of like Elliott Smith and Calexico paired up at http://www.morphthing.com/. Except that, unlike most of the morph results, this sounds pretty good."
"More great Swedish pop that just makes me smile. :)"

Jan 02, 2008

"This song is so damned catchy. But in a *good* way. The lyrics are fun and the music makes you want to dance. One of my new morning, gotta wake up and get in a good mood kind of songs. This and some other songs available at http://russianspycamera.com."

Dec 31, 2007

"How does so much good music come out of Sweden? A good handful of songs available at their site: http://www.amandinemusic.com/. "Lift me up so I can see my love expire, I've been lost so many times tonight I will retire"...Great lyrics, and the instrumentation is fantastic, too. I love an accordion used in a sad song."

Dec 30, 2007

"I could listen to this song over and over. Twilight Sad remind me of Kitchens of Distinction, with their soaring guitars, lush layers and heartbreaking lyrics. Are they breaking new ground? Absolutely not - and that's perfectly fine with me. "

Dec 15, 2007

"Russian synthpop - should be right up the alley of most Camouflage, De/Vision, Kraftwerk, and early/mid 80's Depeche Mode fans. Several songs can be heard on their MySpace page: http://myspace.com/swinglesrus"

Dec 11, 2007

"Love this ... A good, stripped down rock song. Great upbeat, driving rhythm. And yes, it doesn't hurt that Ken Griffith sounds like he's channeling Ian McCulloch. "

Dec 08, 2007

"Hmmm...perhaps how Talking Heads would have sounded if they were German? At any rate, just good fun musik."
"Oh, how I love The Murph. I loved him with Bauhaus, but his solo work is fantastic. Each album takes you on a different musical path than where he's taken you before, and Unshattered is no exception. This is my favorite song from the album. His voice is magnificent and it's just a great, poppy love song."

Dec 03, 2007

"brian_gist rec'd this a while ago, but I'm going to rec it anyway. This song is simply beautiful and mesmerizing - there's no play button for it on iLike, so you'll need to download the song yourself: http://www.airiel.com/sounds.html. It'll make the shoegazer in you feel all gooey inside."

Dec 01, 2007

"For fans of The Church and Cocteau Twins, this might be something up your alley. Starsong and several other songs are available at their site - http://www.ashengrace.com."

Nov 23, 2007

"If you're a Cocteau Twins fan, you should definitely give this group a try. "

Nov 18, 2007

"The simple piano riffs gets me every time...and who hasn't been in that kind of mood, just ready for a comeback?"
